Michael Russell
I am a visiting associate professor of education at Centenary College and a doctoral student studying comparative and international education at Lehigh University. I also serve as an associate editor for European Education: Issues and Studies. Since 2008, I have worked with Caring for Cambodia to improve teaching in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Before returning to graduate school, I taught at Lake and Pen School District in rural Alaska.
My dissertation is focused on the different ways colleges and universities define environmental sustainability. I am using critical discourse analysis and social network analysis to compare and contrast sustainability degree programs at institutions in the United States, Australia, and Canada. I am also working on a project with Dr. Iveta Silova studying supplementary education (private tutoring) as a global phenomenon. As part of my work in Cambodia, I have presented on teacher attitudes and on education for social-ecological resilience. Additional interests include digital pedagogy, bibliometrics, and data visualization.
