Nesrine Chahine is a PhD candidate in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Pennsylvania. Her translation of selections from Ahmad Shawqi’s Death of Cleopatra has appeared in the Norton Critical Edition of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra. She is currently completing her dissertation, “Marketplaces of the Modern,” which tracks representations of the city as a marketplace in twentieth-century Egyptian and Anglo-Egyptian literature.
